I'm not always late for work. But when I am, somehow it's always on a Thursday and it's raining. Without enough time to successfully make it in by 9am by bus, it's my best bet (painful to the wallet though!) to grab a cab. Fortunately, even on a rainy day it's pretty easy to catch one outside our apartment building. Some days- depending on trash trucks, construction and unforeseen traffic jams, it can take 15 minutes just to go 4 blocks. There is NEVER not traffic in center city around 9am. The trial is making it past 23rd Street, on Walnut...where once all the slow-moving stop and go traffic is behind you, it's a straight shot over the bridge, across the river and right to my place of employment. Just a fast ride over the river to University City. And every time we get to that point on the bridge and take off... no red lights or stops... I like to relish in that smooth coast past 30th street- getting to work JUST in time. Even though I might be down about ten bucks.
